Journey to UnGoro: Hearthstone’s New Expansion – What Your Need to Know!
Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is one of my favorite electronic card games. When I heard that there was a new expansion coming I was all ears and today we finally get a taste of Hearthstone’s new expansion: Journey to Un’Goro! Time to fire up your iPad, Android, iPhone or the Battle.net app because things are about to get crazy!
Some of you that weren’t World of Warcraft players might be asking yourself, what is Un’Goro? Well, Un’Goro is an area in WoW nestled between the zones of Tanaris and Silithus. It’s a land full of big dinosaurs, tar pits, mystery and many surprises. My favorite memory of the WoW zone was the Linken quest where you helped a character that shared a striking resemblance to a certain character of Nintendo fame complete a quest. Ahh memories….
Flash forward to today’s announcement… the start of the year of the Mammoth, 135 new cards, the elemental tribe, legendary spells, the adapt mechanic, quests and much more… wow! Be sure to watch the video later in this article and dream of all those cool new features coming our way!
First, let’s talk a bit about the adapt mechanic. If you’re familiar with the discover mechanic, then you should feel right at home. Minions with this ability will give you a choice of abilities to add to your card to fit a certain situation. There should be some exciting new gameplay and new decisions we have to make to find out how to use these new abilities.
Think that’s it? How about QUESTS! Classes will now receive a secret card that’s 1 mana that they receive at the start of the game. Once they complete the quest they’re going to receive some amazing reward in return that should change the balance of the game!
Four Cards Revealed as Part of the Journey to UnGoro Expansion
This is a Shaman class specific card, 5 mana, 2 overload, deal 15 damage randomly split among all minions. This is a control shaman’s dream card. You can use it to clear a board of small minions or take out a large minion like an 8/8 if you don’t have your hex in hand.
This is a Mage class specific card. 2 mana 2/2, Deahrattle: Return this card to your hand as a 6/6 that costs 6. And then an 8/8 that costs 8… and then a 10/10 that costs 10. Pyros is like the phoenix and he will be key against control decks and aggro decks alike. With other cards like N’Zoth that synergize with deathrattles he’s going to be an auto inclusion in any mage deck that plays minions.
5 mana 5/4 Battlecry: Adapt. This one is going to have to see some play to see just how good the adapt ability is. Druid of the claw is also 5 mana and seems better in most situations. Time will tell on this one.
Awaken the Makers
1 mana Quest: Summon 7 Deathrattle minions. Reward: Amara, Warden of Hope. Woah now we’re talking! Amara is a 5 mana 8/8 that sets a priest’s health to 40! That’s INSANE… but there’s a lot of requirements here. It looks like we’ll be dusting off those loot hoarders and cairns for this one. Deathrattle priest used to be amazing and while I feel weird about a card forcing a certain type of deck to use it I think it’ll be interesting to see what kind of decks people come up with for this one.
OFFICIAL BLIZZARD JOURNEY TO UN’GORO ANNOUNCEMENT VIDEO
The expansion will be available sometime in April and many cards from other sets will no longer be allowed to play. If you’re familiar with Magic the Gathering, this is pretty common place however it can be hard to say goodbye to some of your favorite cards. Blizzard is working on ways to make older cards exciting and still playable even after they leave the standard set with wild so who knows what the future will bring. Also, there’ll be a sweet deal where you can pick up 50 packs for $49.99 and you’ll receive a special card back! Time to bust out those Amazon coins! I’ll be keeping an eye on the expansion and releasing news as it’s available! See you at the hearth! What do you think of how this is going to all play out?
