Andrew Winghart – Cry me A River
Andrew Winghart, a choreographer, recently decided to utilize the song, “Cry Me a River” by Justin Timberlake to create a dance to sort of throw some shade at a recent ex. The result is a dance that is more than interesting! I personally LOVE the breakdown at about 1:50 in the video.
The effect of the “river” of women dancers that seems to flow in unison along with Mr. Winghart reallyhelps create the illusion of an actual river of tears made of women. While the song has been out for quite a while, its very refreshing to see a choreographer really bring to life the meaning behind the song both visually and rhythmically. Watch the video below and comment at the bottom of the page. Let me know how you feel about Mr. Winghart’s and his dancers’ performance!
I did some further research on Andrew Winghart and found some interesting information in his Biography. Based out of Los Angeles, he is best known for his dance compositions that tend to exhibit a high amount of energy and are extremely intricate. Originally from the state of Wisconsin, Mr. Winghart relocated to Los Angeles in order to utilize a full academic scholarship to the University of Southern California (USC). Having studied Business Administration and the Cinematic Arts, he began to steadily create a significant buzz throughout the dance community in Los Angeles prior to his graduation from college in May 2014.
At the age of 19, Andrew Winghart got to exhibit is work at Choreographter’s Carnival at which time, The Industry Voice Newsletter penned an article describing his work at “…monumental, genius, technical, ridiculous, prodigious, gigantic, etc.”
Time having passed since that article, Mr. Winghart has since choreographed for various musical artists such as Jeremih (Def Jam) and Ryan McDermott (G.O.O.D Music). He has even choreographed for some short films and has put on numerous liver performances in the Los Angeles area. Andrew Winhart premiered two full length works entitled “Emergence” and “Demiurge” in Los Angeles and Long Beach, California to sold-out audiences. Not too shabby for such a young talent! It goes to show that a lot of hard work and percevierence really does get your the recognition you deserve.
